Qualifications required
A masters degree is usually the minimum educational requirement that any employer looks for. A Ph.D. degree is required for positions of research and teaching. The specializations may include Economic Geologist, Engineering Geologist, environmental geologist, Geologists, Geochemists, geomorphologists, geochronologists, geophysists, hydrologists and so on.
Scope
Geoscientists are employed in architectural and engineering companies, oil and gas companies, government organizations like geological survey, Forest Departments, energy divisions, water management and other state agencies. Teaching jobs and research positions at universities take up a large chunk of the professionals. Many work as professional consultants to government as well as to industry in general.
