Meaning
The systematic study of computing systems and computation. The body of knowledge resulting from this discipline contains theories for understanding computing systems and methods; design methodology, algorithms, and tools; methods for the testing of concepts; methods of analysis and verification; and knowledge representation and implementation.
Qualifications required
Most professionals in the computing industry have a Bachelors degree in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, information systems, or electrical engineering. Higher degrees in this area are most advisable for a good career growth. The person must be ready for life time learning as it is the fastest changing along with the fastest growing areas.
Scope
Computing professionals find openings in a variety of fields in academics, research, industry, government, private and business organizations. Their work profile may be that of analyzing problems, formulating and testing, using advanced communications etc. Some of the different areas of scope in computer science are Artificial Intelligence, Computer Design and Engineering, Computer Architecture, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Theory, Operating Systems and Networks, Software Applications.
